Ghost Town

The South Waterfront doesn't get a lot of respect in Portland, but on our ride down there this evening bikes outnumbered cars by at least 10:1. So there's that.

Left to his own devices, #ClydetheBeagle doesn't seek out adventure. When he goes outside, he takes care of what needs to be taken care of, and leaves it at that. Inside, he just lies around and eventually goes to sleep. Once asleep, however, he starts barking and flapping his tail crazily against the ground. He's never made the newspaper for real-life adventures but he apparently has a wild dream life. Clyde is the Walter Mitty of beagles.

Headed back from Sellwood this afternoon, the buses were running on the Sunday/Holiday schedule. Our first bus ran about five minutes late, which meant we missed our connection. I was fuming at the second stop, when a #Trimet  bus stopped by headed for the garage. The driver asked where we were going and ended up giving us express service to a couple of blocks from our building. So, one cool person made an irritating situation turn kind of awesome!

I'd heard about the Belmont Goats (soon to move to Lents), of course, but I'd never seen them, and if I'd been in a car, I would have driven right past without noticing them. While we were waiting for the Oregon Humane Society's Doggie Dash ("the biggest pet walk in the West!") this morning, one dog fight broke out. I heard the fight, but I did not see it, because all the other dogs in the vicinity crowded around to watch the fight as well as they could despite being constrained by their leads. The other dogs also started baying and barking. In other words, they acted exactly like high school students act when a fight breaks out.

I am totally willing to accept the possibility that this is a self-serving, myopic point of view, but I believe that all versions of the written Oregon drivers test should include the question, "Is College Street in downtown Portland by PSU a one-way street?" (The answer is "NO," and if you miss this question you FAIL and are not allowed to drive in Oregon.)

There's a busker at the Lloyd MAX stop playing guitar and singing "Piano Man". For some reason this seems hilarious to me.
