This morning I accidentally chewed instead of swallowed my blood pressure medication because I thought I had my daily baby aspirin in my mouth. DO NOT DO THIS JUST BEFORE GOING IN TO SEE YOUR MD JUST BECAUSE YOU WANT TO FREAK THEM OUT WITH A SUDDEN BLOOD PRESSURE DROP. BAD IDEA.

Things I learn on Facebook: Stephen F. Austin wasn't a Texan. Oh, my sweet Jesus, that's rich. But, actually, I'm glad to know it. I always have trouble explaining to people that I don't claim the damned state despite the fact that I lived there for three decades. When I was a kid, long before I even knew where Portland, Oregon was, my grandmother gave me a jar of Mount St. Helens ash that a relative who lived here had sent her. I only just passed that jar along to a nephew last summer. I guess I can now go outside and gather up some more ash. I can't believe that burnt portions of the beautiful forests we've hiked and camped in are now covering our deck. #PNWfires
