Teachers=Thugs.
Teachers=Thugs. Women=Sluts. Children with disabilities=God's punishment. Etc. Etc. Etc. I honestly am baffled why anyone but a handful of white male corporate CEOs would vote for these Republicans.

Wow! Talk about sweeping generalizations! One Republican senator comments on the tactics of union teachers in one school district, and now the GOP is saying that Teachers=Thugs. Rush Limbaugh calling one feminist activist a slut (for which he later apologized) can't be generalized to the entire Republican Party any more than Bill Maher (who contributed $1 million to the Obama campaign) calling Sarah Palin a "dumb twat" can be generalized to the entire Democratic Party Low-brow: Bill Maher says Sarah Palin is a 'dumb twat' . And the "children with disabilities" comment - what's that all about?
ReplyDeleteYou used to be much more thoughtful, Barry. Like this post from 8 years ago at Panhandle Truth Squad. Substitute 2008 for 1990 and you'll see just how prescient you were. Your next to last question could have been written this past week:

Are You Better Off?
What are you paying for gasoline today? In 1990?
What are you paying for milk today? In 1990?
Are some of your friends concerned about their jobs? In 1990?
Do you feel like our economy is good? In 1990?
What is the country's deficit? In 1990?
Do you feel like our country is safe? In 1990?
Do you think our schools are moving ahead? In 1990?
Do you trust congress to run your government? In 1990?
Do you think the U.S is admired around the world? In 1990?
Do you think the middle-east situation is improving? In 1990?
Do you we're headed in the right direction? In 1990?

I can't take credit for that post; The Liberalator wasn't me. Those posts all reposted under my name at some point. I don't think you should vote solely on the basis of "better off" than four years ago. And it's not a sweeping generalization when Republican after Republican says these things and then they back them up with policy.
ReplyDelete"I don't think you should vote solely on the basis of 'better off' than four years ago."
ReplyDeleteI agree. I'm better off now than I was four years ago, but the Obama Administration had nothing to do with it. Conversely, look at the President Obama's track record on the economy. On the one hand, stock market up, corporate profits up, GE and other large corporations still not paying federal taxes; on the other hand, over 8% unemployment for more than three and a half years (more than 14% out of work in the African-American community - much higher among black youth), median income down, food stamp recipients exceeding 46 million, poverty rate at 15%.
If people voted for the incumbent President solely on the basis of "better off" than four years ago, his votes would largely come from ... white male CEOs. Sadly, many (if not most) people will vote based on the impressions they've gotten from Jon Stewart, Steven Colbert and SNL.
