Drew Wallner, I have not seen any of the Stone series yet, but I have heard a lot about it. You are right that he is not the most subtle of filmmakers, but unless he tries to make the case that Texas is the center of the cultural and political universe, it would also be very different from the textbooks I read in the 80s.
"A Nuclear Christmas" was awesome by the way. I didn't know that Portland was kind of the example for the nation regarding Civil Defense for awhile in the 1950s. There was even a downtown evacuation drill at one point; downtown was evacuated in something like thirty minutes, which-- judging by my view of the 405 most days-- could not be accomplished today. Portland also had it's own bunker command center, the Kelly Butte Civil Defense Center, where city leaders would work from in the event a H-bomb was dropped on PDX. Then, in the early 60s, everyone just kind of said, "Screw it." Today, the abandoned Kelly Butte Civil Defense Center is covered in graffiti. (I think they should make it into a McMenamins.)
One would think the "Blade Runner" soundtrack would translate well to digital, but that's one that I've never been able to listen to with as much pleasure since I lost my vinyl copy a thousand years ago.
