It was too nice today to stay inside so we walked over the Hawthorne Bridge and around the Buckman neighborhood, through the Grand Avenue Historic District, up to Burnside, down the Eastbank Esplanade, and then crossed back to downtown over the Morrison bridge. We used another Christmas present, Portland City Walks , as a guide for part of our walk and learned some really interesting architectural and historical facts about some of the buildings.  We also got the same author's Portland Hill Walks and can't wait to do some of those as well.

  1. I recommend it.  It felt kind of touristy walking around and reading from it, but my wife and I have agreed to always do a few touristy things in an effort to avoid losing the wide-eyed newcomer's love for this city we've had early on.  It seems like some Portlanders start taking it for granted and forget how much better it is than everywhere else. ;)
