So the takeaway here is that apocalypse is not predictable, but the NRA is completely predictable.

  1. Jim Richardson, referring to the NRA suggesting in today's presser that more guns are the answer to public shootings.

  2. I am a teacher; I've taught for ten years. I don't want a gun, nor do I want any staff or faculty-- even those certified as "safe"-- to have a gun.

  3. We can't, always. A coach in the school I most recently taught in told one of my gay kids that his "lifestyle" was "against God." This kid was already close to suicidal and I had to talk him down from the precipice several times. I could totally see this guy having a concealed-carry in a place like Texas, and he'd be the first to apply to be on the campus cowboy squad. You are advocating for a dangerous social experiment.

  4. We're talking past each other. I don't want guns in schools where I teach. I'm a proven teacher, so you guys will have to decide whether it's worth losing good teachers so you can have guns in schools.

  5. (sigh) Jim, I think I've made my position clear, as have you. I have been involved in numerous campus lockdowns, only one of which involved real weapons. One involved a student walking across campus with a prop gun from the school musical.  I shudder to think what might have happened if a campus cowboy had a gun.  So there you are. I am tired of the argument, and you are not going to change your mind. So we are done. Have a good life!
