I loved the line re: live music, "Sure, one can argue those figures don’t reflect the fact that Austin hosts three major music festivals during the year, but is touting an exponentially devolving shit-show like South by Southwest really something to be proud of?" I'd gone off and on to SXSW since the very beginning but quit going in 2005 as it careened off the cliff. I am deathly afraid that my friends and relatives in Texas will get wind of that statement. No one has as thin a skin as a Texan. Side note: I think MusicFestNW's changes this year were the festival's final distancing from its roots as a PNW SXSW, and a good job, too.
