FWIW, a friend of mine is writing a Change.org petition. This is a bridge too far.
ReplyDeleteWhy does it need to be stopped? Noones making you watch it I don't plan on watching it either.
ReplyDeleteDoug Maupin, I do understand your point. Hell, I erected a Someone Else's Problem field around Eoin Colfer's H2G2 sequel and totally manage to ignore it as long as I don't have to make comments like this one. However, as I said, this one's a bridge too far. It's certainly an artistic travesty, but it's not just that. It's also a historical travesty. RHPS cannot be recreated in 2015; this remake will rewrite and sanitize the 1970s. It's just dishonest. And people who don't know any better will watch it.
ReplyDeleteSo let them how does it effect you at the end of the day? It doesn't.
ReplyDeleteOkay, Doug Maupin, another issue is that "Rocky Horror" isn't really that great of a movie or a musical in its original form. It's the communal audience-response that has made it great. That simply can't be duplicated with a teevee movie. You can say, "Just don't watch it," but that means you don't get it. That also means it won't be experienced anew by a new generation in the format it has come to need to be experienced. That may not matter to you. It does to me. Like I said, one bridge too far. Straw that broke... Etc.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like first world problems to me.
ReplyDeleteProbably. Almost certainly. But, I'm assuming you have a point...?
